Try putting a candle in the bilge. It will go out if there isn't enough oxygen
And if there's a big bang it'll prove the gas alarm was right all the time.

And burn off the excess gas in the line using the cooker.
Rather a dangerous procedure I would have though,as one may get a flash back in the line.!!

I must confess i too wondered if the CO2 caused by sleeping crew could be responsible.
I bought a gas alarm last week and tested it by filling a bucket with a quick squirt of butane from a gas torch It worked very well.
I wonder therefore what would happen if you put said alarm into bucket and filled it with a squirt of CO2 from a fire extinguisher.
They specs from my alarm says it will detect CO, Butane, Propane, Coal gas, methane etc, and says "do not site close to galley area" Maybe CO2??
