Why does my 2006 50hp Honda O/B cut out when given full throttle from idle?

Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum, but thought I'd see if anybody can answer why I have a problem with my outboard.

The 2006 4stroke 50hp Honda outboard is ftted to my 4.8 m RIBCRAFT RIB. The o/b is serviced , in top condition for its age, and generally runs very well. She will rev well into the red line under load.
Problem is, if I floor her from a stnding start, she splutters and cuts out. This does not happen if I gradually increase revs, then give her full throttle. I know she is old school carbs and not injected, and I have been told by my service engineer that this is the reason, but surely she shoud not die if given too much juice from standing start?

Any thoughts and views on this are welcome.

Check the fuel hose and priming bulb. My Honda 75hp EFi was cutting out earlier this year when at top speed. It turned out I had a perished priming bulb.

This sounds like a problem with the accelerator pump which is supposed to pump extra fuel into the intake when the throttle is floored. Your manual should describe this and the link below shows a thread elsewhere discussing problems with this item.

Carby:

dies when given a boost of throttle quietly and suddenly - too lean at idle - check pilot jet settings / not bunged up or float levels / boost diaphragm blocked/torn

dies when given a boost in throttle with an initial gain in revs then a burbling splutter and hunting irregularity then it's too rich. Check pilot / idle jet settings and carbfloat level
 
Thanks so much guys for your replies. I'll definately check out what you have said. I'm sure it can be fixed, its just knowing what to do. I did consider changing to a new 60 Hp Honda, but the cost is just too much, so will be pleased to get my existing one working properly.

I would try a new service engineer. I don't expect my Honda 30 with carbs to cut out if I fully open the throttle from idle.
 
Thanks once again guys, as you will gather I'm not much of an engineer, just a total boat nut.

Im sure this can be fixed, and I'll make sure it is sorted for next season. Many many years ago, I would constanty floor my 1300 Escort and never once did it cut out, just groaned a bit! So I dont see why the OB should cut out.
 
I had the 75/90 honda with 4 carbs. Could never quite get it to be perfect.
Balance carbs to perfection, blip the throttle and they right out of sync again.
To rich or lean and it would pop back through carb on tick over etc.
Overall it ran fine . A whole carb rebuild kit might have solved whatever my issues were but was not willing to invest that amount of money on a maybe.
Eventually I bought a fuel injection. Never looked back !
