Now I happy to most peeps if I can , so when a broker I know asked me to bring a boat round from one port to another, only a couple of hours he said I went, "of course!!!"
Now I should have guess when he said they need to take the big truck and to pick up some stuff that it was not a strait forward trip.

I turn up with grab bag etc and pile into truck with a very large , well it looked like a portable generator to me, beside me, I was not far off it. it was a super all powerful, mega kicking battery starting thingy.
Well we get to the boat after dragging the mega all powerful battier thingy with us. And there she is, in her hay day a top of the line boat she would have been but now she just looked sorry for herself, yes you can feel sorry for a boat, well I can, she made me want to get the cutting polish out, hoover and disinfectant.

Well they lifted the floor and started to attach things to the batties, this mega thing started to make some funny noices, so after some banter in the truck about they hoped it would not blow her up, I retreated to the pontoon, and as luck had it I wondered up wind from the boat,
HLB, She was a good contender for a mucky farter competition on start up, first one engein, started, wow black cloud of smoke, then the other, started, I lost site of the boats the other side of her after that for about 5 mins.

So I could go they said, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!

No speed log, GPS did work, lower helm only, auto pilot came out in your hand, wires and all, 1 rev counter kind of worked, well it moved a bit!!

So off I set, potter out of harbour and had wind over tide, so thought, I will stay dry, and went to lower helm, good plan, but scuppered by no wipes working , so back up top for some refreshing water showers.

request from broker could I tell him her top speed?

so bounced along until nearly at the river I was turning up, and put her flat out, now I had to kind of dive down stairs, to get a GPS speed with out hitting anything. Did that, fffeewww.
pottered up river, and she decides to tell me I had worked her to hard, and gave me an overheat alarm on 1 engine, So tick over on that one, could not check anything, being single handed, so bumbled up the river with the alarm going off , phoned the broker, who heard it too, and sorted berthing for her, they were nice to me , they came out to the mid river berth she was going onto and caught my ropes, It was appreiated as the tide was on full ebb.
So here is a little story of the glamorous life of a professional skipper, who walked off the boat, wet cold and coughing.

In all not a bad trip!

was not out of site of land, and only way to stop one of the engines I remember now was to lift engine bay hatch and pull a bit of string. LOL

Sounds like most of the boats my dad ever owned. At least one of them involved going down into the engine room and pulling a decompression lever if you wanted the noise and smoke to stop. Mind you; the hand-cranked generator was good for your arm muscles :D
