Why does an air filter keep falling off my port engine?

Re the air filter popping off, could it be a backfire through the intake popping it off. Sticky inlet valve maybe or weak spring that can't cope with the high revs.

Thats the kind of thing that worries me. The valves are going to be checked during this winter's service so hopefully if there is any problem, the technician should pick it up then

I can see why, but while my engines competence is nowhere near enough to assure you that you shouldn't worry, gut feeling tells me that this event is rather unlikely.
I mean, backfire should be strong enough to find its way back through a turbine spinning and pushing right in the opposite direction at high RPM...!?!
Not saying it's impossible, but if that would happen, I suppose the engine efficiency should also suffer enough to show some relevant differences between the two engines (higher temp/load/fuel burn/whatever on port engine).
Did you notice anything like that?
Regardless, there are engine gurus here in the asylum that can definitely give you a more reliable view...
