Why do ex-raggies

That's probably a generalisation. Some fast hulls have very deep v's up front, and are very good in displacement mode in very rough conditions. I've been out in a 21' 'speedboat' when a Nelson was doing a good impression of a submarine, and I was making equally good progress without all the immersion, though he was going in a straight line, while I was actually steering! :)

You're saying that as if it were unimportant... Would you fancy a 20 hours cruise like that?
...assuming that the 21' speedboat didn't run out of fuel after the first 5 hours, that is! :D

Otoh, that's a typical "each to their own" matters I reckon, innit?
I've yet to hear of any serious trouble onboard due to the carpets colours...

Mmmm.... PART, maybe.
But I've always thought that those who don't appreciate cruising as the MAIN MoBo pleasure, would be better off moving around with a chopper or summink.
And when it comes to cruising, there are indeed differences.
 
The Dashews are former raggies who developed the Sundeer series of fast slender sailing yachts - and they have since gone over to the dark / sunny (your choice) side with their 83' aluminium 'Unsailboat' Windhorse which has featured quite often in this Forum.

They have just recently posted some very impressive seakeeping photos of the first of the smaller (64') Unsailboats to be sea trialled - have a look at http://setsail.com/fpb-64-avatar-final-trial/.
I hope that their hatches on the foredeck are 100% watertight!
And I wonder if any green water came down the dorade vents (all facing aft)...... these vents do not appear to have 'boxes' in the conventional sense to deflect water, and they appear to be totally submerged at times.

There summat else and all,and surely this is a wild unjustified scurrilous slur on the out and proud owners of white wilton,but ...ahem ...but...as you go aboard such vessels,you may well be asked to sign an affidavit stating that you are wearing "approved deck footwear" so no marks on gel coat,are not in possesion of any crisps or sun cream cos leaves marks on sunpads and leaves unsightly stains on teak decking,will not enter interior of boat with bare feet because sand will get into pile of carpet and finally under no circumstances will leave towels/flipflops lying around except in permitted places due to everything having to look exactly like a photo from the from page of MB & Y at ALL times..:):):)

I suspect that if you think that 8 knots is an exciting turn of speed, anything capable of doing more than 15 knots would seem like a really dangerous crazy type of speed machine likely to turn your insides out and make your eyeballs bleed - definitely best avoided.

Yikes no! If you are invited aboard a boat in the Med you remove shoes before stepping on the passerelle. Even if it has black carpet. Anything else is a faux pas. Even if on business wearing brogues and a suit you remove shoes. "End of" as they say

Crisps towels etc are no prob as they will miraculously tidied away tcrisps get zapped with K2R). Flip flops are a non issue because they will have been put in the shoe basket on the dock, see above :D

It would have to be a Mcgreggor for me :)
( not that I recall seeing one sailing) but it would be nice to zip across to CI in 3 hours and then sail through the little Russell with 6 knot tide push.:D

Of course it goes both ways, and it goes between planning and semi-d's, mono's and multi-hulls, each to there own I say.

But white carpets, I think we can all agree on that one :eek:

In "The Producers" when Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom go to visit the somewhat(!) camp, director Roger de Bris they are met at the door of the apartment by a request to remove their footwear and the immortal line: "white, white, white is the colour of our carpet".

I'm saying nothing. :D
 
My raggie had blue shagpile in the saloon when I bought it. Initially I thought "how naff & impractical". But it was very warm & cosy when getting out of bed or getting changed before/ after a swim & was easy enough to lift & shake over the side from time to time. When it eventually had to be replaced (at about 15 years old!) I was dissapointed that I couldn't get similar & ended up with an offcut of bathroom carpet.

I just hope that 70's shagpile comes back into the shops again sometime. I probably wouldn't bother with white tho - too many grandkids & beaches.
