Why do boats have names?

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were seagulls and rocks and things
There was waves and waves and waves
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with clouds
The heat was not and the ground was wet
But the air was full of rain

I've gone to the sea on a boat with no name
It felt good to be out in the rain
On the sea you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la

After two days in the freezing wet
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the watery drizzle
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think the tide was out...

You see I've gone to the sea on a boat with no name
It felt good to be out in the rain
On the sea you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la

etc etc...

This like the parts counter at Fords, standing in the que while watching people explain an item they need.

"What make of tyre would you like?" Meaning Dunlop, Michelin etc.

"Rubber please" ?

I always give names to my most precious objects in my life,
My Car's Called "Qalbi", which is maltese for my love
My Phone: Nexine (It's a Nexus)
My Boat: Sta.Lucia (My hometown)

I guess it's just human nature
