....Boating could be this fun.

Had my first proper run out today absoulty brilliant.I flown helicopters, aircraft, raced cars & powered accross lakes in fast jet boats. But nothing comapres to pottering up the Thames at 4kts. But then you guys alreay know that.;) (perhaps middle age has hit me early)

I am plaaning to head up to Windsor area in May are there any pubs hotels that you can recomend where I can more up to and spend the night on land.

Cheers
Matt

What type of boat are you cruising aboard ? can you sleep on board or do you need to kip ashore ?
Also where are you cruising from ?
There are loads of good places to spend the night along the whole of the Upper Thames, and nothing better than to tie up in the middle of nowhere with a big steak and good bottle - and just watch the river flow by.
Alternatively you're never far from a good boozer.

That's it. You are hooked, just as surely as you would be with Crack Cocaine or Heroin but slightly less than smoking.
Welcome aboard Sucker ;)

Hi Billy,

We have a Shetland 760 25ft. However 4 big guys not realy a enough room. So we are looking to sleep ashore. Leaving Saturday from Walton and and thought we could get to Windsor area sleep there and head back.

Windsor v expensive place to sleep ashore, and you would need to book ahead - but a good run ashore for four guys - would recommend you tie up on the Eton side and enjoy local hospitality then rough it on board for the night - feeling not too much pain !!
The Watermans Arms does a good ham,egg and chips.

Thanks Billy but styaing on board is not an option. I just wondered if there were any pubs on the Thames that you could moor up to and also offered accomodation. It is a once a year thing so cost is not to much of concerns I was thinking around £150 per room.

There's the Swan in the Staines Massif (here) - they're doing a bit of work on it at the mo but it's still open for business.

I'd probably prefer Windsor for a "big" night out, but St Aines can be fun.

Hi and welcome to the forum ,in order to get into the real spirit of boating, you will obviously need a much bigger boat very very shortly ,why not start right now, hours of fun to had calling in at all the Marinas as you go upriver and annoying a broker(a time honoured sport) with idiotic questions while hinting that you may be in the market for a 60ft Broom in the very near future.:)

The Oakley Court Hotel just upstream of Windsor may fit the bill at £150 per room.

Afterwards you can pop into Bray and discuss your future requirements, or just have a cup of cofee and discuss boats. We are happy to see you all at any time.

I don't dare I doubt I could leave without buying something. Buy as you say it is a time honoured sport perhaps I will pop it one or two;) with wallett firmly out of reach. As long as they are not a Westwood dealer I should be ok.

Thanks Akers may well pop on for a tea.

I can highly recommend Bray, whether for moorings or the highly professional Boat brokerage/ Sales team.

Having been rescued from a deal-gone-bad in great style, the usual scoffs of abuse aimed at Boat brokerages do not wash with me.

There is not a bad bone in the whole of Bray marina. Perhaps excepting Ramage and Boatone....LOL
