No expert but...
The thicker the wire, the less it will strain when put under stress.
It's the straining that makes the forestay sag. So thicker wire all round equals less forestay sag. Or same sag at reduced tensions.
Of course if it's the boat itself going banana, the wire size won't make much difference.
