Why are the cables always too short?

Bought a photo-sensitive anchor light last month and got it back to Turkey. Works well with low power draw but the cable is only just long enough for me to hoist it just past the boom, via the nearest hatch, making it invisible from one side of the boat.

Bought a 12v mozzie killer the other day. The cable is only just long enough for me to sleep in the saloon, not the cabin, if I want an unspoilt night's sleep.

What's the point in manufacturers supplying marine products with cables that are too short? I'm gonna have to open the unit up in order to solder a new, longer cable, which will invalidate the warranty no doubt. Grrrr. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Rant over.

Oyster owners scrimping? Tch, the very idea! I think you should return your boat to Ipswich and have the yard do a proper full installation. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why not just extend the cable, take the plug(?) off and extend the cable with crimp on heat sealed joiners? Stop ranting and moaning!! You're in Turkey, some of these poor bu@@ers are stuck in YUK working! tee hee

I thought you already had an automatic anchor light, "Oy Liz, get yer arse up and turn off that anchor light!"

It sounds too simple but I often have the same problem. Just buy or make an appropriate extension lead. Bit of wire, socket at one end and plug the other. Eventually just wire in a new socket.

I'm sure if she reads that post it will be quite painful for me also, when we meet again! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Colin, why didn't you tell us you'd changed your name???!!!! I didn't know you were now Englander in the YBW forums! I hear you have a new SWMBO. Congratulations! I guess this is why you've changed your forum ID?

Tony - don't worry, I know the answer. I just wanted a moan because our real electrician, who was supposed to be turning up today having cancelled twice already, still hasn't turned up. He said 9am this morning.....it's now 3pm and not a dicky bird. B@$t***!!!!! Will nip down the chandlers now to see if they have any waterproof fittings for me to play around with.

Sorreeeee! Yep tis me, incog..thingy! Anyway, thanks for the congrats! See you around, no doubt!! I was getting a bit fed up with ccscott49, after hundreds of posts, didnt know you could change it, so did. Name of boat you see!!
