Recently did m,ega ring rounde because upped value of Roaring Girl (new kit and loads of work!) and also crossing Biscay. GJW were our previous insurers and paid a claim last year (c£1000) for damage after a sand bank grabbed us in the Walton Backwaters. No problems or disagreements.
The market check brought up sme wild variances, though nearly all insisted on 3+ for Biscay. Also hug differences about whether the survey we had done 3 years ago was acceptable or whether I would have to rehaul, resurvey etc (which is itself a huge cost. Insurance ran out December, hauling in March!)
GJW's first quote was not competitive at all, but when I went back and said so they came back with a competitive offer. So we stayed with them, as we got a good price and known good service.
The ring round included Pananeius. Firstly quite hard to get a quote from (didn't ring back, complicated forms etc) and secondly very dear with absolutely no interest in disucssing their offer. Without them laying eyes on us I got the feeling that somewhat scruffy travelling liveaboards are a bit below their dignity! Bishop Skinner also (more surprisingly) uncompetitive.
Yep - I agree with you. Have gone elsewhere. Pity as I liked them and they provided cover for Carrib and Med for me in the past but are just too full of themselves about their service and overpriced for home waters. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
