why are fishermen so bloomin grumpy?

About 18 years ago we had a mooring in the tidal marina of Dover Harbour. A fishing boat, with a charter group of anglers aboard, came alongside the other side of the pontoon and I offered to take the lines from the crew; having made fast to the satisfaction of the skipper, I left them to it. After the charter group had disembarked and gone up to the car park, there was a knock on the hull and there was the skipper with a huge Cod, and the words "I've been here over 20 years and you're the first yachtsman ever to offer to take my lines, would you like a fish". The scenario was repeated the following weekend and, after that, we didn't even have to take the lines to get a fish, one of the charter group would always be instructed to drop one off if we were on board . . . . . Happy days.

Have a look at this. The boat is one I had been part owner of with one of the fishermen. A search had been going on for two or more hours, the crewman, an ex diver, was getting twitchy, and they agreed that either the divers were dead on the bottom or live on the surface but miles from the search area. They dropped the gear and steamed past the search area, and another five or so miles, there they were. Don't know what went wrong with the search. The divers were a little peed off at the press and cameras on the quay when the LB brought them in, having picked them off the FV just off the pierhead.
