I appreciate that there is a lot of fairly static data in their and the tides are predictions anyway but surely some of the info on ports must date. Given the time needed to publish, the almanacs can only be up to date till say June, 6m before you might reasonably use them.

Is there a reason why they couldn't be prepared a couple of months later, perhaps in time December where they would make good presents but would be a couple of months more up to date??

So they are out in time for SIBS?
A colleague of mine works at the UKHO (also keen yachtsman), and he claims it can take up to 2 years for port updates to make it into Reeds (especially foreign ports).

Chances are they are already out of date way before they go to print, let alone next year. The cynic in me suggests it's just timing for the Christmas stock in the chandlers, but maybe even more so with on-line companies like Amazon vying for your money which presumably shows them before they would normally hit the shelves. I wonder how many people remember to register the purchase and receive the updates and corrections through the year?

Rob.

Surely you know better than to use an Almanac for navigation :)

Have you see the price of the 2011 ones on Amazon!
I keep last years and give my brother-in-law (he can fall into the Tyne and come out with fivers stuffed under his nose, most others die) the years before ie this year he got the 2011. If I can make an honest bob or two, rather than give it to that barsturd, so do let me know the price 2011 editions fetch. I presume it's something reasonable otherwise you wouldn't mention it, would you?

People will try their luck on all sorts of out-of-date stuff on Amazon .... especially American sellers. I can only guess they occasionally get lucky.

Personally I find a Reads lasts about 5 years .... if I haven't found a more recent one in a skip by then :D

Same price as I paid for my 2013 version.

I replace mine every 5 years so I am not getting upset about it.

Then there are The Nautical Almanacs on e bay-1985 hard back £60 0r classic Admiralty Charts from US £60?!
