Who\'s done what this season ?

Any action adventure stories , any tales of heroism , any witty and entertaining moments that we should know about ?

To get the ball rolling:

We finally made it to the channel Islands after planning it for several years only to be thwarted by bad weather on the weeks we had chosen, we also "discovered" the pleasures of Salcombe and its glorious beaches.

After spending three years in Poole we also spent a day on the beach at Studland, very crowded, but on a sunny day also very good.

Also went to Honfleur earlier in the year, that was good especially liked the inner basin even if we did end up with food poisoning from the "horse" burger we ate.

Went into Chichester in the dark from Poole(only the second time we had been there) making out the sector light in the dark with all the other lights in the back ground was....entertaining.

Plans for next year ?....well maybe some of the smaller ports on the French coast Dielette...Granville...St Malo...who knows ?

Re: Who\'s done what this season ?

Left Lagos, went to rota, storm bound with Levante running through straits, Gib next, then Estepona to pick up crew, no berths anywhere, back to gib, to collect new motorbike. Off to Almerimar, again storm bound 1 1/2 days, Left for IBiza, arrived Ibiza town, bloody expensive marina whilst off to work. Return, off to anchor in St. Antonio bay, Met Dangcharios. Numerous cruises right round island, and other islands around, back to St. Antonio, off to work, whilst away, boat dragged her anchor all over the bay in a storm, lucky I had crew this time! Off to north of island and then to Mallorca, Puerto Portals, Met TCM and Stewart, great evening!! Left there, bound for Puerto Pollensa, anchored in a few nice spots and got hammered in a bay by a thunderstaorm, dragged again. Round to puerto soller, stoembound, dragged all over the place, got hammered in the bay!! Short notice left for work, boat still there! Phew!!

Re: Who\'s done what this season ?

Big problem I've found being in Cornwall/Devon. Is after all the big adventures we used to have, we've realised that with Salcolmbe and numerous other ideal places close by, it's starting to feel a bit of a drag going a long way to find places cirtainly no better and in the most part worse.
Still managed to get down to the CI. and Dielette. Nothing special about dielette but met Dom and Soltronised Mucky Farter!! Best bit about the summer must have been, meeting up with Blue Fisher and LJS in Salcolmbe and devouring as many of his 70 dozen scalops as humanly possible. Not to forget Colin the spider crab who also came to dinner! Heroism Hmmm. Met up with ToMo a few times if that counts!!
Spent ages painting up a 45 gallon oil drum and mounting it down the cellar. All plumbed up with pipes and pump for trip down to Britainy. All foweled up by a Solicitor that could not buy a house for cash without it taking three months, ending up wanting compltion right in the middle of summer hols. Bugger. Still not lost out to much . Cos then got two summer hols, if a bit shorter!!

No one can force me to come here-----------

Despite having 4 months out of the water util August i still managed to go to Alderney loads of times and Jersey a few times and Herm/Sark loads aswell and then did Dielette Granville Lezardrieux so covered most of the Normandy and Britany coastline add to that all the Channel Islands inc Les Ecrehous and Ilse Chaussey. Making up for lost time.

Re: Time for a new anchor Colin? <G> NM

Bluidy right bruv, I didn't mention the numerous other times it dragged! I'm going to get a 100lb Northill made for me in stainless, I'm really fed up with this 112lb halls pattern jobbie, bluidy useless in weed covered sand, tried a 65lb cqr, then TWO 65lb CQR's all to no avail, even with 120' of 5/8 chain, need something that will cut through the weed! Mind you I was not the only one who went a'wanderin' it's been a bad year for this kind of thing, ask anybody down there. In fact the halls pattern is useless in anything but mud, the flukes are just not big enough. Anybody want a 112lb and a 80lb halls pattern (amiralty) type anchors?

Had two intrepid trips from the slipway to the mooring in the puffboat. Two energetic bilge pumpings, and two intrepid trips back to the slipway (100 yards).
Cheers, Dave.

Re: Who\'s done what this season ?

First season so intended to spend it all on the Broads with a view to maybe putting our nose out to sea next season (when boat better equipped). Had a lot of good weekends getting to know the boat (with some not so good moments when faults are discovered) and learning/teaching the kids to fish! Slowly coming to terms with the frequency with which the chequebook is required.
Had a couple of weeks aboard in August and met up with Tracey and Steve (fellow forumites). Had a good time in their company and even put to sea with them on an epic voyage of great distance, requiring determination and fortitude from the crew of the good ship Lady H (Lowestoft to Gt. Yarmouth)!! Bit lumpy but it laid a few fears to rest amongst the family so hopefully putting to sea more regularly is on the cards.
Only problem is that having been mightily pleased with our Princess 32, getting to know Tracey and Steves Princess 470 has led to dreams of a larger boat (and smaller bank balance)!!
Having spent today shopping instead of out on the boat (under protest) I am begining to realise that the winter months are going to be bleaker than normal....roll on next season.

I have spent more time in other peoples boats as I sold mine at the end of May, not found anything yet, went to look at big Sunseeker 52 on the Hamble, but a wreck, I wonder who bought it?, im sure they will make a shilling on it, good luck to them, as they say roll on next year.

It's silly really, every nice day your sorting some ones boat problem out, every wet day it's your turn to work on your boat.

Result everyone has had a nice summer boating, I'm still trying to get the keel wet !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right now let's see were I put this winters plan.
