Self and two friends set off yesterday from Chichester, heading for lunch at the Folly. Expected: rain, wind and waves.
As it turned out, we drove the whole day in bright sunshine and beautiful conditions.
It was lumpy over Chichester Bar on the way out and then a bit of a swell to the forts. But once in the lee of the island the sea flattened out and we ran up the Solent at WOT.
Just touching 3,700 revs on both engines and with a bit of slime on the bottom we were still making 32 knots over the ground on the gps wearing big silly grins when something pointy and naval grey, about 15 metres long went by us like we were standing still: must have been touching 50 knots with the surface drives kicking up a nice rooster tail before disappearing into the western Solent. It looked like our tax dollars were for once being well spent. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Sadly, I didn't manage to get a picture
