Self and two friends set off yesterday from Chichester, heading for lunch at the Folly. Expected: rain, wind and waves.

As it turned out, we drove the whole day in bright sunshine and beautiful conditions.

It was lumpy over Chichester Bar on the way out and then a bit of a swell to the forts. But once in the lee of the island the sea flattened out and we ran up the Solent at WOT.

Just touching 3,700 revs on both engines and with a bit of slime on the bottom we were still making 32 knots over the ground on the gps wearing big silly grins when something pointy and naval grey, about 15 metres long went by us like we were standing still: must have been touching 50 knots with the surface drives kicking up a nice rooster tail before disappearing into the western Solent. It looked like our tax dollars were for once being well spent. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Sadly, I didn't manage to get a picture

I think you might get a bit more than me. Obviously the KAD43's are bigger and more sophisticated engines and your boat will have a clean bottom.

You won't get close to that navy job that I saw yesterday though!

Are you planning on going anywhere in particular next week or just putting the boat through her paces?

Don't know - assuming she works ok we might look to go to Poole, the back track up to Yarmouth. We will probably put out nose into Sparkes at somepoint, just to say hi to the old guard, but she will be based on the Hamble from now on.

This all assumes the fuel pump arrives on Monday and col can get it fitted. Fingers crossed.
