Whoever...

Infuriating when people don't own up! We all make mistakes but concealing it is pretty low. We suffered damage to the gel in the marina last season. Suspect it was one of the boats moored opposite us in finger berths but no-one stepped forward. Personally I couldn't live with myself but I guess we are all different :(

1. The boat was hit hard. Hard enough to split the GRP and push the fender strip into the wide crack from the impact

2. The damage suggest it was hit by something pointy - bow first. The depth of fissure and fender strip damage is not consistent with a boat bumping with their stern.

3. It was hit by a boat with a snub nosed, vertical bow - consistent with those on a sailing boat. If it had been a motor boat with a raked bow, the pulpit would have also done considerable damage to my boat, particularly given the extent of the damage to the stern quarter.

Anyway - I've moved on. Just gonna get the boat lifted and repaired and get on with my boating.

The behaviour of whoever hit your boat is pathetic, rude and illegal, the behaviour of Cowes Yacht Haven just the first one. I'm a raggy but I'd definitely second the suggestion to start a thread on Scuttlebutt as somebody could well have seen the incident. Also, if it turns out to be a Sunsail boat (pure speculation) then Sunsail has to be fair a pretty good reputation wrt sorting out the resulting repair bills

+1

In my (first-hand) experience, while Sunsail have a deservedly "iffy" reputation for boat handling, they do usually admit when they've hit something and are pretty decent at sorting out the damage - It may be worth calling their base at Port Solent to see if any boats have come back with damage to the bow.

What a measured and constructive reply...I'm sure you're very proud of your contribution.

Don't take it to heart, it's clearly not representative of the majority of mobo owners. He's a good lad really but from my experience does tend to get a tad obstreperous when he's had a few. Timing of his post was 15mins before closing time on a Saturday which gives a clue as to his wobbly state of mind at the time :)

Here's a thought...

Although Cowes Yacht Haven still haven't found time to check their CCTV, they have committed to do so by cob today.

Even if they spot something and I get a boat name... how do I then go about getting in touch with the owner?

First, well done you and well done Cowes Yacht Haven for agreeing to review CCTV - many marinas needlessly hide behind data protection bureaucracy.

All sorts of avenues might open up depending on the level of detail you ascertain . This includes the collective eyes on here ...including our side, one level above you lot I might add ...on the "Forum Access Page" that is :D

Well... nothing on the CCTV.

Boat repair guy says boat definitely needs to be lifted out as the crack extends to the waterline.

Marina says they can't lift until 19th June.

It's been a **** few months - suppliers taking my deposits and not delivering, boat getting hit, now out of action for a month... beginning to regret buying a boat :(

I'd post a picture on here with the damage and get a second opinion on whether a patch up will do pending the next scheduled lift out. At least get a second opinion from a trusted forum source by them visiting your boat if a picture doesn't make it clear. A month out when the weather's for cast to change dramatically for the better is no joke and I understand you thinking boats are more hassle than they're worth. A week bobbing about in the sun will fix that :)

Notify your insurer, if you haven't already. Phone around and find another yard that can lift you quicker. Have you tried RK at the top of the Hamble? They seem to be pretty good at fitting stuff in.

Yes lots of good yards; I know the guys at Hamble Yacht Services very well and happy to see if they can prioritise you if you like ...pm me if interested. I'd also seriously consider Gary's patch suggestion as an interim fix; us raggies often go this route when we clunk our boats into other "willing" combatants :ambivalence:

Don't lose heart. These trials and tribulations are all part of it. Somewhere will be able to lift the boat sooner than that and, as Gary says, a few days with the sun beating down on you and a chilled glass near to hand will fix it.

I was parked in a solent marina car park last month, left the car for an hour came back to find considerable damage to the back, and the car park has to be swiped to enter, so 95% chance it was a berth holder etc, no note, nothing! The little axxxhol;e just slipped quietly back to his boat and left me guessing, i have moved on, car now in body shop having repairs, would so love to know who it was, so he could pick his teeth back up from the pontoon, but life rarely works like that
