I was out today with the owner on a new boat. It was a substantial Flybridge: the owner was chuffed to buggery with is new "toy". I took him down to his west Solent berth and ran through the systems etc.

Late afternoon, the owners wife and children arrived to spend the next few days aboard.

Through discussion it became evident that while the "toy" was his motivation, the ultimate purchase was.......................?

Fairly normal in marriage surely? The wife lets the husband think he is making the decisions

I wish I had a wife that wealthy, does she pay for the marina and fuel as well?

I don't interfere with her cooking and cleaning and she doesn't interfere with my boats and cars. Perfect really. :D

Fwiw, I've yet to meet a wife (mind, mine is the first and only, but I'm speaking also for my friends' wives) who really appreciate a 60+kts boat. It's already a good result when they don't start screaming to reduce speed...!
...not that I can really hear them, anyway. :D

I have a similar approach to MYAG - SWMBO is home, house and gardens, I take care of cars, bikes, boats and electronic thingies... the only standoffs are foreign holidays!

You should

See how many blokes ask their other halves if they can buy a magazine at the show!

My first wife hated the 3 hour drive to sit on our gin pallace in Lymington, so she left me to go down there on my own.

Eventually she left anyway.

I got another boat before I met mrs volvopaul 2, so it came as part of the package, I inherited a step son and a dog called tilly and there all lovelly!.

My wife likes boating more than I do, mostly when theres a glass in her hand.

:o actually I probably would too ... well - not actually ask, but state that I was thinking about getting one in a bid to get approval - which normally comes anyway. Occasionally, when I haven't asked (not 'at the show') ... we've both gone and purchased the same mag ... doh!

As for choosing the boat - our first was down to F-i-Law and me. SWMBO only 'approved' purchase after we had already offered. The second (and current) one SWMBO and I went around looking at all sorts, working out our compromises (living space vs sailing ability - the most difficult requirement was decent sleeping accom for 4 adults in two separate cabins) and I think we've done as good as we could within budget. This time it was SWMBO and I who decided and F-i-Law nodded the approval.
