It's well after springs, not high pressure and the westerly wind not especially strong, so why's the East Coast tide a whole metre below prediction?

At 10:00 this morning the Sheerness tide was 0.5m below CD.

Looking at the PLA tidal data http://www.pla.co.uk/hydrographics/ltoverview.cfm there are some very low tidal heights except at Richmond which is 2m above prediction.

Looking at http://thames.me.uk/s00030a.htm even odder.

Wow, that would have caused us a long wait if we were trying to get back into Shotley marina.
It appears that the NTSLF chaps predicted it -> http://www.ntslf.org/numerical-modelling/latest-surge-forecast?port=Felixstowe
but, because the weather didn't seem unusual I would not have looked at the surge predictor without your posting

Due to someone pulling the plug out we found some unknown obstructions that have cause a few deep scores in the bottoms of our boats over the years. Now marked & waiting for the loving touch of a diver with some HD cutting equiptment.
Every cloud has a silver lining.

Thanks for the links to tidal information. I haven't seen them before and they are very interesting. Does the tide only go out that far at Sheerness then? Nothing compared to Mersea flats!

I live in Leigh and it goes out for a mile in front of my house.

If I recall my time spent sailing from Maldon correctly, the tide retreated as far as the eye could see not much after half tide!

Goes out 2-3 miles every day near me - but then I live near the Severn Estuary.
