Funniest story from Cowes Week so far (if you weren't actually trying to sail the course):

Makes you wonder what would have happened if the vessel had started to sail off.
I have this image of the complete fleet chasing it to Dover...... Protest! Protest!

Same sort of thing happened once in the RTIR

In an effort to keep keen racers crunching their keels on the Vervassi wreck near the Needles, the ISC laid a buoy west of the wreck and made it a mark of the course. Unfortunately an early arrival sailed onto the buoy, and in getting themselves free they lifted the buoy's anchor, which allowed the mark to bob off happily downtide on a course towards Portland Bill. Later arrivals, looking for the buoy, were somewhat surprised to find they had to sail halfway to Anvil Point to round it. (I exaggerate, but only a little)

Dont really understand the point of this. As a dedicated cruising man I am used to finding buoys not where they should be. Indeed, the last time I cruised the South coast, someone had moved the Isle of Wight, but I still found it eventually. My wife was really impressed. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
