Who else went out this weekend? I noticed one "wee laddie" out this morning (you know who you are!!)

Typical tho, near as dammit no wind for the last fortnight, then, come "race day" gusting 35 knots of a bitterly cold nor'easterly!

Who's law is that again?

Out Saturday. Took a lady friend out for her first experience of powerboating. Hundreds of layers on, otherwise would have been a bit parky cruising in an open topped speed boat! <g>

Bluidy cauld! Went to the Folly for lunch. Very bumpy at entrance to Cowes with the pontoons in Cowes YH almost surfing.

So you went out then? How did you do? The Advanced Course was interesting, particularly the nite ex on Saturday night. Had to abort the planned route of coming back to Poole Harbour via the Loooe Channeel due to huge waves breaking off Hook Sands. Retraced steps and came back via No1 buoy! Cold? Nah! Bloody freezing! Yesterday (Sunday) weather perfect for rough water handling exercise/forums/images/icons/wink.gif.

I popped out Sunday to make sure reefing lines etc were all working OK after mainsail had been off to the launderette. Fereezing and very gusty. Just a couple of hours bouncing about was quite enough!

Us too. out Ocean Village Fri evening to Haslar. V cold. Satruday to Bembridge Ledge and back to Cowes for lunch thence to Yarmouth. Cold but good sailing. Subday back to Hamble with 2 reefs (should have been 3 at the start - but never mind the side decks didn't need cleaning when we got back), Interesting and quick sail back to OV Sunday afternonn - again 2 reefs. Arrived OV in daylight for a change, cold but happy.

Us regular charterers have to take the rough with the smooth.

Wet up to the knees (and behind the ears)

Not many out in the wet part of the country on Sunday. I saw one other boat all day. Beautiful sunny day, but the wind was often over 30 knots. Took a walk across the windward trampoline to admire the view, and got a vertical upwards wave straight up my trouser legs. I know this happens by now, and I should have my boots on, but I still haven't learned the lesson.

Nah, frustrating.

Fourth weekend in a row that we've planned a weekend booze run to Boulogne, and been frustrated. Three times too much wind, once too much fog. February is the cruellest month.

A NE breeze makes for great Solent sailing. Friday we did Hamble to W.Cowes via Hamstead Ledge. We even had a bit of snow. Saturday was a nice beat up to Gosport Clarence Yard. Sunday Gosport to Eling to Hamble. With messing about while people practised various stuff we'd got over ninety miles in over the three days.

It proves that modern sailing cloths and cabin heating have made winter sailing much more comfortable.

Had a good run from OV to Lymington, Saturday, back Sunday, as others have said shame not to see more out, but we enjoyed a superb weekends boating.

Well I went to the boat Sunday and fitted some conduit in the lazarette,clean polished and hoovered down below, (not a euphemism) then pressure washed the deck. All with the heating on - mmmmmm nice....

Couldn't go sailing because the boat is out of water waiting for me to finish polishing the hull. Couldn't finish polishing the hull due to raging throat infection etc. To make matters worse, Southampton FC were lucky to escape with a draw, and Wales got hammered in Dublin.

Spent the weekend dossing around the house like a bear with a sore head, until finally cracking on Sunday afternoon - went off to spend some money in Marine Super Store at Port Solent.

I only bought a channel tidal atlas and some spare sheer pins for the outboard but at least it felt like I had done something useful and I did get to see the sea !

Not yet but soon

I haven't been out on the boat since November 1st, which is highly unusual. I've been working around the clock on a wee project and have just got it all singing so I'll be out this coming weekend (and many more to make up for lost time).

Plan is to get out this weekend then slip her for bottom maintenance (no more than a week) then we're ready for the rest of the season. Having seen the scrubber at work on Glen Rosa last year, we may give her a mid season scrub.

Looking forward to going out again!

Up Southampton Water past Marchwood on the western shore is Eling.

The west shore is rural and calm while the eastern side is a manic container port. It's often possible to pick up a mooring there without charge, which is novel for those parts. There is a tide mill in the village that still grinds corn.

Should have been putting my engine back together... er... helping the bloke who knows how to do it - well passing tools and making coffee...

Much too bumpy on a swing on the W side of Portsmouth Harbour, so spent the weekend putting new worktops in the kitchen - a long and frustrating saga.
