So…..anyone ever taken Whittall davits apart?

I need to replace the locking pin things (both half snapped as pictured) for the extensions but 1st job…get it apart

Any idea on how to remove the extensions to give me access to the locking bit? Usually I’d just undo stuff but thought someone might know.

I have taken mine apart a few times over the years.
Plan a
The easiest fix for yours at this stage is to drill at 90 degrees and add a long stainless bolt, then cap the end or add a black tube to hide the broken bit.

Plan b
If you really want to take it out there you can undo the 4 screws at the boat end , then remove a bolt that stops the extension bar coming out but the black plastic bit that has broken is an odd thread and isn’t easy to fabricate , I have a stainless steel screw with a wooden dowel that acts as the brake which is a second version following a stainless spring loaded plunger ( piston)

There is plenty of strength left in your current screw , best option is plan a.

That’s really helpful and thankyou

I did wonder about the plate at the back being the access but now I know!

Thanks again

PM Sent. To get the extensions out, unscrew the locking bolt under the davit body. Remove the rollers in the end of the main davits by taking out the securing bolts. The extension will then come out. You should also be able to remove the locking bolts by simply unscrewing them as far as I can recall.

That’s awesome and thank you for the pm

I tried to unscrew them all the way out but the seemed to just stop so didn’t want to snap them further. Only plastic after all

I’ll do some disassembly to see what’s what
