Was in the pub last night... and thinking... we could pop over to Whitmore Bay at the weekend, drop anchor, chill out with a couple of friends, and sit out the low water for a few hours.

But then checking Navionics... anchoring prohibited.

Is that a definite no-go then? Or is it just related to "Stay the hell outta the way of commercial vessels operating in/out of Barry port, don't park your junk overnight here, we can't be responsible if you drift into a cargo ship thru the night!"?

I've been told you can anchor in Barry Harbour in the fairway over low water if you're just waiting for tide but to say on the boat.

Whitmore Bay dries so you won't really get any advantage of being in the bay so to speak.

Was thinking we only need a bit of water... but checked and LW there on Sunday is 2.2m... so you're right... a lot of the bay looks to be drying to 1.5m above datum, but 0.7m is prooooobably cutting it a little shallow, unless we can lift the leg and dry out for 1 hour.

Will keep on lookin' :).

Probably chose Porthcawl at this rate... though didn't wanna push so far out... will take an extra hour to get there! Could be kicking back in that time!

Sully Pool does not dry, just inside of Sully island, if you have decent GPS or chart to get you to the non-drying part (the entrance dries), and unlike Barry harbour its a nice spot. Sully Bay just to west of the island often has big ships further out so if you tuck in out of the tide it should be ok, but Id make sure you have decent anchor. And Ive often seen fishing boats anchored off Lower Penarth toward Lavernock though I've never done it myself.
