Any idea what thread is on tiller arm / drag link pin it has been lost and I can’t find any ref anywhere.
I’ve measured the thread and it’s 1/2 “ but what thread, they look like hub ball joints on a mini but only look not a def.
Thanks

Why don't you go to a hardware and buy some ½ nuts with different threads and see which nut fits?
If you want to get technical you could see if there are 12 or 16 threads per inch which would determine whether it is BSW or BSF..

Of course Lewmar brought out Whitlock. Is there anything here?

(Maybe I don't understand the problem?)

Half inch UNF. Originally an aero nut, but they are a bit special these days (particularly imperial), and a nyloc nut does the job.

The "ball joints" are rose joints. Lewmar part no 82000356 (I assume that you are talking about the cruising version - the racing version had a thicker drag link). They cost an arm and half of a leg. I found it cheaper to buy mine from Defender Industries in America and pay the import taxes. You also need an 85002010 packing for the inboard end - it's a shaped washer and goes on first, narrow end facing the rose joint. That grips the inner part of the joint while allowing free movement of the drag link. You shouldn't need one at the rudder arm end if the angles are right.

Also +1 for Cliff Mogridge.

I'm not sure if this info helps the OP but, for what it's worth, I had to replace the rod-ends on the link between a Cobra steering unit and the arm on the rudder stock last year - this is on a 1987 Sigma built at the Marine Projects yard in Plymouth (think it was Plymouth - not 100% sure though). The link, a sizeable steel rod with male threads at both ends, used 5/8 UNF right-hand thread. After a bit of googling the relevant female rod-ends were bought from "Online Bearings" operating from Nelson in Lancashire - the web-site is (or was) www.onlinebearings.co.uk. With shipping and VAT mine cost £32.15 each.

Thanks everyone useful info, It was only a few bolts and as I had other things to sort I’ve taken pedestal out, if anyones interested I’ll report back.
Thanks again
Keith

As andygc said 1/2’’ UNF I’m very impressed, at the same time I got the engineer to measure thread on wheel pinion 5/8 UNF 18tpi.
Thanks everyone
