On my Gaff Cutter where should the 'Motoring' white light go? Top of the mast or what? I have been thinking of blanking off a sector of the anchor light, but welome ideas.
Oi Redwing - its a gaffer!
-therefore you can't put it half way up-lacing or hoops would get fouled !
Stick it just above the hounds or forestay.

You may find Brigadoon`s Post 03-11-09 and the subsequent threads of interest should you fit an new Steaming Light. VITALBA
Thanks chaps, I have considered that, but what do you think of blanking off 135 degrees (sternward) of the anchor light which sits under the tri light at the masthead? I normaly use a lantern slung from the forestay when at anchor so the white light on the top of the mast is spare.
I did consider this myself but went for separate steaming light above the hounds and all round white (well, combination tricolour and all round white) at masthead.
Reasoning:
1. Redundancy; with a boat just a bit over the 12m cut off I can, should one bulb fail, use the "other" system.
2. Although like you I use a "proper" riding light, it is handy to be able to switch on the masthead all round white light as soon as you anchor whilst you light and hoist the real riding light.
This has proved to be a good idea.
I was worried about the steaming light getting clouted by the jib halyard block so I mounted it above that, rather than at the hounds.
