White grp decks & black spots

We seem to have small black spots (possibly tar or oil!) on the white GRP non-slip areas of the deck, and they seem to resist removal!

I have tried washing-up liquid, and a "deck-cleaner" sachet that you put in a bucket, but neither shifted them?

Any ideas please?

What do others clean their decks with?

You could try "Fulcron" which is a de-greaser and I use it for cleaning oil e.t.c. under the engine; I also use it on the decks for those hard to remove black spots caused by "rain" in this area (traffic pollution), but I use it diluted and as little as possible as I assume it also removes any protective polish!
Failing that oxalic acid will remove most things (search this web site for oxalic acid and you will see lots and lots of info regards mix strengths e.t.c.).

We had a similar problem after several boats in the yard were sandlasted to remove antifoul and done on a windy day, none of the usual gunges worked. Someone suggested trying CIF Oxygel so we tried a spraygun of this from the local supermarket and it was magic, not to mention cheap compared to the 'marine' stuff. We now buy a 2lt container of it from Makro which is thicker and dilute it to suit, I think it costs about £4. Take care to keep it off any canvas like the sprayhood or dodgers, although I missed once and it didn't seem to do any harm. The best way to use it is to wet the decks with it and spread it about with a sponge or small brush, leave it 5 minutes then hose it off whilst using the deckbrush.

If it is tar, a little white spirit on a rag should remove it, failing that try margarine. Apply, leave for a while to soften the tar and remove as much as possible with rag or paper towel. Clean off finally with any suitable detergent.

Mould and mildew spray worked on some of ours a few years ago and elbow grease!

astonish oven cleaner mild abrasive but ideal for non slip decks brush on with a stiff brush rinse off bobs your uncle,magic stuff.

Sounds like spider sh*t !! use WD40 on a clean white rag

How closely have you looked ?

Could they be pin holes in the gelcoat ?
