Hi - Just having our first few days about our new (to us) Dufour Classic 32. A few teething troubles - nothing major except one that I hope you guys can help with... We have a wheel steering system and the control lever for the engine is on the side of the wheel mounting. The issue is the pin that you push to engage neutral gear (to rev up) is not connected and simply pulls / falls out. Is there an easy fix - or does anyone know is this how its meant to be? The make on the side is Whit Lock.

THanks for any help

Matt

If it is an old-style control (Whitlock Cobra, cast Al body, curved chromed lever?) it is easy enough to take off the pedestal and have a look at the mechanism. I had the opposite problem with the neutral button sticking, which freed up with some wd40, but eventually the whole thing became u/s when components became too worn to operate.

Again, if it is the old-style mount, you will find it is very difficult to replace with a single-lever control without some major surgery to the cable holder plate (the old one is very neat and compact). I tried that for a while but couldn't get a smooth operation, so I junked the control housing and built a new wood and stainless one instead.

NB If you do try to dismantle it take some pics of the process - it is horrible trying to reassemble it without some notes!

We have a Dufour 35 Classic. It used to have the same problems until one of our charterers completely smashed the lever casing and we had to replace the lot. My advice is to speak to Cliff Mogridge (Winch Servicing) and if you describe the problem to him he will advise. In our set-up the "pin" is retained by a rubber seal than needs to be glued on. I am sure that th rubber seal will not be too expensive to replace. Ask Cliff: he is a great guy and hugely helpful. Try 07970-820522 or contact him through his website: here.
