The pump on my Lavac often whistles/squeaks in use. Any ideas on what causes this and how it might be prevented? Its not the hinge between handle and diaphragm as it continues when pumping stops - so must be one of the valves? Incurable perhaps...A minor tribulatin in the great scheme of things....

It's air leaking in. A couple of possibilities are the anti-siphon valve or a loose pipe joint somewhere. Smear a bit of washing up liquid or similar around the joints. You will hear the tune change - or stop.

My advice is change it for a non-vacuum one & I will take it off your hands for spares for mine I need a new seat (Tee hee)

Are you sure it isn't the air vent? There should be a pinhole in top of the inlet pipe to allow air in. This will continue to hiss for a litle time after you've finished pumping.

Get a bit worried if it only whistles when SWMBO sits down.
Get even more worried if it only whistles when you sit down!
