Oh. I can beat that. It's a long time ago. But I was building some shelves. So I bought all the wood, then thought I'd cut it all up first. So I'm in the garage furiously sawing away. Very sencibly I'd sawn all the big pieces first. So then I sawed the big pieces into smaller pieces and then cut them into the little pieces. When I looked round after my hard days work. All I had was a massive pile of five or six inch pieces of wood!!!!

Re: HAYDN, The man with ..........

Oh well. I'll try again. This was for the world record attempt for going the wrong way.

I was merrily driving along, down the pipe line in Saudi Arabia. Got there, all the way from England and not got lost. Anyway I was going to Kuwait. Never been before. So what happens is. You drive to the Border in Jordan at a place cauld H4. Cos thats the number on the pipe! When the customs is done with you they let you out of a farm gate into the desert. Now all the tracks go off in different directions and theres no sign posts or anything. Only instruction are. When you've done about sixty miles you should come to an old fort. If you dont yer lost! ell anyway I didn't get lost there.
So back to the plot.

1000 miles down the pipe line you come to this Arab transport cafe. We called it the mirrors, mainly cos it had some on a wall. You dont see much decoration in the desert. So you turn left there for Kuwait. So off I trundles again and eventualy gets to Kuwait. Still not lost.
So comes the time to set off back. Bare in mind they do not have sign posts in Kuwait City and all the roads looked the same cos all new. So kept asking the locals. This way Saudi
Arabia. Yes they all said. Funny I thought, dont quite recognise it so asked again. Yes the guy in the turban says, so I carrys on into the night. When I got to the Saudi border I new I'd gone the wrong way. Yes Right country. But 500 miles further South!!

Is a 500 mile detour a record??

Will I make the Guiness book of records??? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

er, well, I just rebuilt the engine in my land rover, 2.5 td, so when I was putting it back together there was a threaded hole in the back of the engine with no stud in, so I got a stud and fitted it, then when it was time to put the engine back in, it proved to be a right bastard, after a couple of hours I noticed a shiny round mark on the face of the gearbox, odd, I thought, hoorah, silly me, no corresponding hole for extra stud, obviously thought I knew best, so I removed the stud, engine was still and utter bastard, and would not go in, so I took it back out, replaced the stud I had removed, removed the stud I should have removed and hey presto, in she went.

Only other stupid thing I have done (other than get on a boat with Col) was a long time ago...and its best left as part of the history of my formative years but was probly the stupidest thing anyone ever did anywhere by a long margin....

:O)

Re: OK I\'ll bite

You cannot just leave your coat trailing like that and expect us all to refuse to bite.

So, I'll be the sucker
<< but was probly the stupidest thing anyone ever did anywhere >>

Yeah, go on then........
convince us

Re: Sorry...

If it was that long ago, surely we have a right to know under the 30 year rule. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: Sorry...

Is Totally Unacceptable.

Your trailed coat now has 3 people standing on it so you're not going to get away that easily.

We wouldn't have known about your awful dark secret if you didn't have a deep pschological need to have it out and let us help you deal with it. There, scientific reasoning as well as 3 heavyweights.

Yours in confident anticipation

Anthony

BTW I promised BarryH I'd spill my toilet tale (oops) as long as he was consolable but he didn't reply. So, after you BB

I am begining to see......

...that I might have to spill the beans.

The problem I am faced with, is that in order to start the story I would need a reason why I did it, and for the life of me, I cant think why anyone would........

500 mile detours etc

A couple of years ago, I was driving south Liverpool to London, towing friend's boat for a favour. Trailer busted right by Hilton Park service, just N of Brum. Repair lorry came to collect trailer, and take it away for fix. He asked me to follow him to his office in Hilton Pk services, to do paperwork, however it was on the Northbound side, so he escorted me over the private "closed to public" bridge to get from the S'bound side to the N'Bound side of the service station

Paperwork done, I abandoned the boat and carried on to London. It was about 1am by now, so I switched on fast autopilot, I had done the trip many times before.

When I saw the turn off for the M62 I realised I had forgotten to get back onto the Southbound side.....

Re: 500 mile detours etc

.......mmmmhh

We've all done this one.

You know , when you move house and you're leaving work and start driving towards where you used to live...

I did that, drove all the way home and let myself into my former house...................unfortunately had been divorced for 3 months...

or missing the flight on a 3-hr stopover in Bangkok (you try explaining it , you are GUILTY)

Woke up late one morning, dressed dead quick, drove to work Schumacher stlye, luckily traffic unusually light ( can you guess yet? )
Roared into an empty carpark.

Just as you would expect on a Sunday. Doh !!
