When my Moody 28 was surveyed, the surveyor scraped off various patches of blue antifoul. Don't have a problem with that, but the report mentioned that it had, had two coats of epoxy. How could he tell, all the patches are white, and if he scrped off some epoxy how can I tell where? The next question of coarse is do I scrape the whole hull off and give another coat of epoxy before antifoul or just epoxy the "bare" bits. The original antifoul is in pretty good nick and can be painted over for this year.
Would appreciate any thoughts!!

Epoxy coat are sometime put on with 2 colours so it may be possible to decide on number of coats.

Only put on more epoxy if the hull is dry. If it is, and the coating is thin then it may be worth doing.

Perhaps it may be worth talking it over with the surveyor.

So it had two coats of epoxy?... So What? Think you (or we?) need a bit more information. Was the surveyor unhappy about bonding between the coats of epoxy?...in which case how did he come to this conclusion ... etc, etc.

The surveyor took the antifoul off to get moisture readings the bonding between epoxy and hull is good. The hull is dry as it's been out of the water for nearly two years. As far as I am aware the epxy was put on purely as a preventitive measure.

If you carefully remove some antifoul around the areas where the surveyor scraped you should see the difference between the areas of clean gelcoat and epoxy. if you look carefully you might see that the other post is correct in that two colours have been applied over one another which is how the surveyor came to his conclusion. In fact the recommended full treatment for epoxy is usually 6 coats, but few boats get this full treatment and 2 is better than none. As far as removing all antifoul and coating again, unless the antifoul is flaking or damaged I would not bother. If I went to all the trouble of removing all the antifoul and preparing for more epoxy (which is a lot of work) I would do 3 or more coats to build up the recommended thickness. I would repair the areas where the surveyor has been though in any case.

Agree with others if the rest of the hull is ok leave it, but I would epoxy the parts scrapped off.
Problem is epoxy should be applied above 5 deg C.
Next problem is they do not as far as I know do touch up epoxy so you will have the expense of buying I guess 2.5 L tins.
Never mix to much,it will go off quick.
Anybody who knows what he is doing always would of used differant colours when appling two coats or more of the original epoxy.so your boat is already probably in good nick by the sound of it.

Greetings All, Can I Check the moisture content of my hull with a damp proof suveyors type meter? If I can, what percentage of damp is OK?
