My private mooring area at back of house needs sorting and I have decided to bite the bullet and put in pontoon system.

Latvian Company offers 2m x 4m ready made pontoons with wood deck for 316 euro each ... plus delivery of course.

My area is a circular basin at end of short channel ... so idea is to have 3 of these in a line across the basin and then the boats can sit nose pointing out ... stern to the pontoons ....

SS.LV Ūdens transports - Piestātņu aprīkojums, Cena 316 €. Ražotājs pārdod gatavus pontonus. Izmērs atsevišķi eur/gab. 2x4m. - Sludinājumi

Time to have some 'convenience' !!

With the usual winters here - I need to be able to pull the pontoons out of water before Ice sets in ... at 2 x 4m - this is more manageable than the usual 6m long versions.

Lots of plastic pontoons available (as used at Lyme Bay frinstance).

Much easier to assemble / disassemble over winter as they break down to 2ft-ish cubes.

Owner is on YBW

Bangood also offer pontoon chunks in the same style.

Local agents supply similar ... but works out expensive ....

SS.LV Ūdens transports - Piestātņu aprīkojums, Cena 1 000 €. Pārdodu noliktavā palikušos 15 dubultpontonus, ieskaitot iekļauts - Sludinājumi

Trouble is with any outside Latvia - is delivery costs as well. Now we have no ferries working ... so trucks are taking long haul overland.

The modular design is very good and I would go for it - but circumstances are not favourable at present !!

Thanks Refueler. I giessed that local kit will be cheaper. The other advantage of modular stuff is that you can 'tune' the shape to optimise access and boat size.

Which is why we are looking at it for a private mooring association in Plymouth; flexibility of design layout.

Once things improve ... my business is clearing about 1/10th of its normal profits at moment - so its 'tighten the belts' ..... then I can look again. I know people that would buy later the pontoons I am getting now if I decide to change.

I'm hoping that I can create a finger between my pals mobo and my sailer .... with house insulation blocks and then wood top / sides.

Those plastic pontoons give you (well me) a shock every time I step on or off the boat. I always try to avoid them.

The ones that get me are the marina fingers ... they are fine when a boat either side moored ... but if you are only boat and nothing the other side ! I've learnt to try and get as central as possible to step to ... avoiding that awful tilt !

Decided time to sort out a few things ....

Swing seat onto the deck ... clear away hoses etc. (SA's ropes airing while I clean her up ..)

Time to use up old pallets and do landing stages ..
