Hi, I am replacing my Navman 3100 wind repeater with a piece of wood! Not a big loss as it is fitted immediately under the actual wind instrument on the console. Weird!

The piece of wood will be cut to exactly the same size and then used as a bracket mount for my chartplotter. That is if I could cut straight /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I intend to paint it black to match the console and when not in use it will be covered by the Navman cover.

Do I need marine ply? If not, what wood is best? As it is only 116x116 where could I get a piece that size without buying a tree?

Thanks

Inside - or out?

Inside is not so critical. Outside marine ply every time, or a well primed and painted piece of hardwood.

Whya don't you find an offcut of teak? Any yard will have some bits loafing about for a couple of quid. KJ Howells will sell you a bit of teak otherwise.

If you really want ply, then provided its painted well, you could easily get away with WBP ply for that bit - but if I wanted to fill a gap, I'd go for the solid teak option...

What a star you are !!! I will pm you with the address. One day I might tell you about my UFO keel trying to fall off mid-channel. 36 hours to get from St Vaast to Portsmouth !!!!!!
