Dear All. Want to try selling my yacht privately as don't agree with 8% commission agents charge (even estate agents only charge 2%)! Question is what is best web site or mag to try? Where would you turn if you wanted to buy a 25ft yacht, circa £12k?

I sold my Jouet 680 on www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk Free advert, 6 grand for the boat, 3 weeks to sell

I sold my Limbo 6.6 on www.apolloduck.co.uk Free advert 5500 quid for the boat, 2 days to sell.

Currently have a 420 dinghy on ebay...... but only about 50 quids worth... Bought a Hurley 18 from ebay a couple of months ago, 202 quid.

Went to see Mirage 28 from boatsandoutboards, it was sold following week.

If the boat is in good order and you know how to present it, and you are asking reasonable money, it will sell.

PM me if you want a word doc which I sent to prospective purchasers of my Jouet. It cant have been bad as I met the couple who bought it from me a few weeks ago, and they are still speaking to me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I also used www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk and sold the boat within a month at very near the asking price, but did get several scams offering to pay the asking price, boat unseen, usually from Nigeria, getting paid by a local 'friend' etc etc. I put a good description, and followed up all serious enquiries with a very detailed inventory and a cd with about 30 photos. Good luck.

Sold my £14k 25 footer yacht through boatsandoutboards in 2 months v. close to the asking price. Had only genuine interest.
Most important advice I would give is recommend you take the time to put as full a description of the boat as possible on the advert, i.e. list absolutely everything onboard with age if relevent. I used a typical broker style layout for listing the gear.
Be prepared to follow up with additional photos by e-mail or disc to potential buyers. I showed 3 buyers round the boat, took 2 for a test sail, sold on the second test sail. (first viewer found the boat was not what he wanted, second still had a boat to sell)
Good luck

Seeing we're on the YBW site, a word about their offerings. £12k puts you firmly in PBO territory. You might just get a nibble from YM but definitely nothing from YW.
