I sail on the East Coast in case that helps. I have Wind guru at home on the PC. Is there something the forum would recommend for wind, strength, direction etc? Of course i listen to the Coastguard, this is for instnat infor when I've missed the broadcast.

I like windguru if they do that for Androids. You can set your favourite places, turn it sideways and get a week at a time. It deals with conditions for water users so is more relevant than some.

I found Meteo Consult to be the best*, it's free too. I've also used Simon Keeling's sailing weather information service, both mail and sms.

*Using a tablet so YMMV

I'll second 2nd Apprentice... I have been using the Meteo Consult App on Android for the past few months and it seems to have been accurate for all the sailing I've done...

A good feature is that it includes HW and LW times and heights for the main port in the forecast area you are looking at.. and you can set App warnings to alert you at various wind strengths (although I've not actually found that useful!)

I prefer Windfinder both app & website for layout. The superforecast seems to be the most accurate I've come across but, I think is only available on the website rather than in the app. Its main forecast appears to use the same data as windguru but without the delay that windguru imposes on non-paying customers.

Windfinder pro app for android has the superforecast. I prefer the interface to that of the Windguru app.

Windguru app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.studioeleven.windguru&hl=en. Just click on install and select your phone (assuming you're signed in to Google Play on your PC). I prefer Meteoconsult and Windfinder (Pro gets rid of the apps and the one hour time interval can be useful too). Rain Alarm Pro is my weather radar app. Just put them all on there and see which one you like. Apps will use a small amount of storage and no memory or cpu at all when closed so you won't do much harm just leaving unused apps on your phone but uninstalling them cleans them out completely.

Windguru is good and accurate. I tried wind finder a while back when I was in the med and it was terrible there so that put me off. (Not so much windfinder's fault as the underlyign data was probably terrible.)
I actually really like the met office app through. Doesn't do marine forecasts but once you spend 20 mins with it it becomes suprisingly user friendly and gives huge amounts of useful info if you pick the closest UK land point. And it's free!

I have started using Predict Wind this season. Excellent presentation and has not let me down for accuracy. There is always a deal to be done on the charges too. XC Weather really good too.

Met Office app-whilst a general purpose local forcast system it tells you what you want to know quickly-forcast;windspeed;direction;sunrise sunset. If its behaving itself all it needs is network access to work out where it is and present info from the local station.
It is simple enough with the press of one button to quickly download without high speed connections.
I keep a selection of coastal stations ready to access including Tiree airport and Stornoway airport as well as those stations between Mallaig and Ullapool my local sailing area.Combining the reports with an intimate knowledge of local topography provides an instant picture of our local weather in the NW Highlands.
