I had the Yamaha 4stroke 4hp. Obviously a different engine but it needed to be on the tiller handle.
The thing is there was a sticker to show that on the motor. Sure you don't have one?
Unquestionably, the Yamaha 2.5hp outboard exudes quality and is the best constructed engine in this class. Easy to carry, it may be laid down on its front, which becomes the natural way to put it down as the carry-handle is mounted at the rear. In addition it may also be laid down on one side. (but it doesn't say which)

My Mariner had this sticker, but beware, the Honda was the other way.

I checked the owners manual after posting the link.

Any of the 3 ways I suggested are acceptable for the F2.5.

Generally 2 strokes or four strokes are not laid on their gear-shift levers because they are not designed to support the weight.

I believe the Hondas have little feet on the side of the cowling for them to rest on.

Having read and re-read the manual I did find myself a bit confused so appreciate the advice.
Looks like it is on the tiller or carrying handle uppermost which would be my preferred choice.
I have read about all sorts of problems with water/oil in the cylinders etc.
