Which way should a throttle control work?

And how do F1 drivers manage to avoid problems switching to left foot braking and hand clutch - or is the whole situation so different you automatically shift into a different mode?

I used to have an automatic car. My wife's was a manual. And I raced a kart with left-foot braking, hand clutch and push-pull gear lever. It just wasn't a problem, so I suppose as you say, each was an entirely different mode.

I drove a bulldozer once in which the accelerator worked backwards - push down to slow down, lift off to speed up. The idea was that you'd be operating on max throttle most of the working day, pushing earth, and it would be tiring to have to hold the pedal down continuously.

The steering was a couple of tiny levers; the main hand controls were for "flying" the blade to cut a level stroke.

Apparently I was quite good for an untrained beginner :)
