which way round does this seal go!? Volvo Penta p/n 966207

So on taking the steering helmets off of my DP-G drives i of course had to remove the trim sensor wheel, and the potentiometer sealing ring (VP p/n 966207) was perished and fell apart. I have the replacements and realised as i came to fit it that i have no idea way way round it goes. Flat side up or flat side down?

yep, normally do, but this time a photo would have shown something similar to mince as the seal was in bits!

I would say as a general rule the open face goes towards what you are trying to keep in place.
