Which underwater inspection camera?

Hi,

Looking to get a camera to inspect props and anodes etc with, there seems to be lots of variations of USB / wifi inspection / endoscope on ebay and amazon etc, but most of them seemed designed for very close viewing only, some previous threads have reported it being difficult to even find the prop until they hit it and thus are then close enough to see and inspect it close up.

Can anyone recommend one they have found works well for this purpose?

I have recently bought a Go Pro Hero session - £150 from Amazon - it's tiny and waterproof and you can view the output on your phone. I also bought an accessory kit for about £20 on Amazon that has lots of useful fittings including a long 'stick' which would be ideal for looking underwater. Plus the camera can be used for loads of other things too - great bit of kit

Although knowing where the props are etc, should be OK to get some OK footage without a preview on the phone

Ok John, you have me there; here in the middle of winter today water temp is about 19 deg , but as well as being lazy I was also thinking of being able to inspect drives when you are out on the water and suspect you may have struck something or fouled the prop etc, in a swell (which we get a lot of here) diving under the swim platform is not a great position to be in unless you really need too, that platform comes down towards your head pretty quick! In that sort of scenario having a wider angle of view from further back would better enable you to inspect all the outdrives rather than just a small specific area.

I do have a Go Pro so yes I can tie it to a boat hook and try to record everything but when these waterproof inspection cameras are about $30 if one was found to do a semi reasonable job it would be a no brainer to have one on board.

I use this little underwater fish cam with its own live screen in full color, works a charm lowered from a fishing rod. it even has light on it to see in dark water.

Once you lower it into the water on the fishing line, how do you make it face the right direction?

Fix it to a stick of some description? Boat hook, broom handle, deck brush handle, fishing rod or some other long straight thing.

I lover it taped to a fishing rod and NOT with the fishing line, a broom or mop stick as suggested above will also serve.

Looks like GoPro is a nice option since you will get an HD quality video.
