which thread sealants:

liquid or PTFE tape?

Which is best?

(application: low pressure gas)

Might be worth looking at Heldite. Very useful for threaded diesel fittings unlike PTFE and can be used for gas as well apparently as well as a host of other applications.

For LPG there is a sealant called Calortite (I reckon it is the same as Red Hermetite). It sets but not hard. I always use Calortite I have a tube about 20 years old still nearly full!
For mains gas you are not allowed to use ordinary water PTFE tape, there is a special gas PTFE tape which is much thicker and you are only supposed to use one wrap.
I don't know if there are any regulations about using gas PTFE tape with LPG.
(As Nigel indicates, this is assuming threaded not compression fittings.)

I got a little bottle of that for assembling my new fuel system. Seems to have worked. However, at the same time I added a remote oil filter kit, so instead of being on the side of the engine the oil filter is now on the end of a 1m pair of hoses. The hose tails fit onto the remote filter head with a joint consisting of a male and female conical flange, with a nut (like the one on a compression fitting) to push them together. When we ran the engine up, these joints were leaking slightly, a drop every thirty seconds or so.

Reckon the heldite would be suitable for sealing this?

They seem to advertise it as the CT1 of the jointing world. The only thing it's not compatible with seems to be ethanol and potable water according to the blurb.
