If you want a tablet to replace a failed laptop to use on forums, I question whether a tablet is the right choice. I get mighty fed up trying to type on a tablet or phone screen, so generally don't bother.
A tablet is good for consuming data (i.e. watching or reading something) not typing stuff.
For boat use, you want the brightest screen you can get, measured in nitts. We have a Samsung, I forget the model but was the brightest tablet screen we could find and use it with Open CPN on the boat. Even that could be improved if only the manufacturers put a little thought and instead of making the face of the screen a shiny surface, made it just a little bit mat so you don't get reflections of bright objects. I guess the people that design these things never actually try using one outside on a sunny day?
