We regularly cook toast on our Origo. The toaster is a bread slice sized metal grille with a hinged arrangement to hold it about 25mm up from a metal gauze which is heated by one of the stove's burners. The gauze gets red hot. Put a slice of bread on the grille and turn it frequently.

The toast made by this device is excellent. There is absolutely no taste or odour of meths. I can't remember the make but I think we bought ours at a Southampton boat show about 5 years ago.

I've used the pyramid style toasters for some time now (available cheaply in most decent camping shops) with reasonable success. Trick is to remember to turn/invert the bread for an even cook.
Better for the lower fat fanatics as it frees up the grill for the bacon and sausages while leaving a spare burner for the eggs and mushrooms!

I've got the Compass square flat stainless one...and its better than the pyramid types....not perfect but pretty good. But their stacking pots were rubbish the handles bent!

The pyramids are u/s- only the bottom gets toasted.
Chichester Caravans do a french one(seen them in camping shops too); mild steel, but two perforated sheets joined together with an air gap. Works well, compact and handle folds over to stow- we are on our second one in 8years/two boats, but rusts eventually- i'm gonna try the veg oil idea mentioned above.
We use a small compact two slice toaster when shore power is connected.

Which stove top toaster

We had one some years ago which was very efficient. Rectangular shape, about the size of a 1lb loaf tin. The top was like a grill. Bought from a camping shop and used for many years until it rusted away. Haven't seen one since, unfortunately, but far superior to those we've tried since, e.g, "pymarid" ones.

Toaster for Hob.

Jim,

Coleman the camping and carvanning company used to do one (probably Still do) which was a sort of pyramid affair with a round flat plate with hoiles in that went on the burner.
Very cheap and efficient. We used to have one many years ago when we had a trailer tent.

Regards

Steve.

Toast related, but not quite on topic, I use one of these:

Is that what SaltyJohn is referring to in his post above?
Called a Diablo, mine was a present from my daughter so I don't know where it came from, but I'm sure Google will tell you. Can put all sorts of fillings in, even egg if you're careful!

We use one of these on an Origo. Had it for 9 years, no sign of it wearing out. Works just fine. You can get one from a camping shop or on-line.
