I dont think Ill ever part with my Evinrude 4hp, 2 cylinder 2 stroke, its been amazing and only weights 13kgs.....but I need some more punch, so what outboards are say 5/6hp but still twin and 2 stroke?
Most I have seen on eBay etc, say a 5hp mariner are single cylinder.

Any recommendations for a 6hp or possibly 8hp 2 stroke super lightweight 2 cylinder?

Tempted with a Tohatsu 9.8hp at 26kg, but that's quite a lump....its short shaft for a tender.

Thanks

I have a 6hp Mercury that fits your spec, except I wouldn't call it light. It's a detuned 8hp.

Much the same weight as the 2 stroke Tohatsu.

Yamaha 8 2 stroke at 28 kg is one of the best and its well made IMHO. There is a 6 hp verison as well at the same weight.

+1, It's a great engine. Mine's the 6hp but a change of carb (£75 for a new carb from the dealer) means it now performs like the 8 :) . For power to weight ratio, the Tohatsu takes some beating.

Actually it was the same as the Mariners of the time, I think. A little heavier than the Tohatsu in fact, at 31kg v 27kg.

There was a Johnson 6 and 8 which weighed in at 26kg, according to some notes I made in 2005.

Generally the lighter the outboard, the smaller the cc, and the higher the rpm the max power was generated.
