Which PLB

Looking at a PLB and wondered which one won the votes.

I want one with a built in GPS so am looking at:

GME MT410G AccuSat 406 Mhz GPS PLB EPIRB

ACR Aquafix 406 Mhz GPS PLB EPIRB (GPS built in)

ACR ResQFix 406Mhx GPS PLB EPIRB

McMurdo Fastfind 210 406 Mhz GPS PLB

So whats the verdict given price difference? I tried to do a vote but couldn't figure out how to do it.

When I went through this excerise I ended up with the GME on the basis of battery life and cost. It is also supposed to get a quicker "fix" than some I believe. Thankfully not had to use it yet...

i've got four of the mcmurdo ones with GPS. This might mean you don't need to buy one

I have a McMurdo and I understand the batteries are user replaceable

Tough question. PLBs are relatively new and used infrequently. . There will probably never be a significant track record on these devices as they will be obsolete before a dozen are triggered in anger.

Great units but perhaps what could all use is a directional antenna so that we can locate a signal close to us.

So how complicated would it be to design and build a directional antenna for the 2 frequencies used,

406 MHz and the 243 Mhz locator freq. that lights up on equipped radar receivers.
