Which new engine should I have?

re: sfh

"Volvo have stpped making smaller engines, they badge the engine in their excavator range, they are water cooled Deutz, i would bet that the new Volvo marine engines are Deutz based"

No you are so wrong....

The D3 is related to the D5 as found in the Volvo car range, as you no doubt know Volvo cars are owned by Ford although that really has nothing to do with this engine either.

The other new units been launched at Soton are the D4 and D6 both of these are brand new built by Volvo Penta for Volvo Penta.

All that represents some $250m investment in R&D from Volvo Penta.

Deutz who!!?

Re: new boat

Err....No wrongish! D3 is 100kg lighter, but agreed 4.3EFi is 10kg heavier, so one less breakfast each time I go out /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I suppose if the EFi is 30% more powerful and more economical than the standard 4.3GL, then I will have the heavier weight of fuel in my tank longer /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I do hope the D3 is accepted, I would be the fastest diesel in the East /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: East?

From what we've seen, you seem to have spent more time in the Solent than anywhere else. You should chuck the marina in, and admit you're a trailboat junkie and try and get some proper help...

BTW, where did you go Saturday after the Yarmouth Berthing Master came out and shooed all the boats away?

Re: East?

We went to Lymington and got shooed out of there, so returned to Newtown creek. We had a lovely night all rafted up, although there was the raggie who started things off over his bad anchoring and hit Duncan's boat. Luckily duncan had only done half a bottle of Gay so was able to explain to the raggie the rights and wrongs of anchoring, then Duncan did the rest of the bottle and the raggie buggered off /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I think the problem was Col's boat, it scared the harbourmaster, perhaps I should have gone first while they all hid around the corner, then all gone in /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I went back to Yarmouth on Sunday and had a lovely lunch with Geoffs, thanks Geoff. Geoff then went back to poole and I returned to meet Col at Newtown creek, as he does like alie in after a shandy or two /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Had a lazy afternoon then recovered the boat and drove back through the hell of the M3, later diverting to the A31.

As for not using the boat at Chatham, I think you have it a bit wrong there, I am like a single man (having a small boat) free to travel anywhere where there is fun, when I go bigger it will be like getting married, all the fun goes and you are tied to one blinking place wishing you could be somewhere else /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I have my boat at home at the moment getting it dressed up for the Forum Thames festival this weekend , with the the flags, bunting and fairy lights /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

So perhaps being trailer trash has it's advantages. I think the little boat or should I say the new little one will be here to stay. SWMBO can buy what she wants and sit in her new floating cottage in the Hamble, worrying about about how hairy her bottom is getting, and how many sea creatures have attached themselves to her, me I like the freedom and excitement, and ease of maintenance /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I think you are so full of it that you "canna see" when people are laughing at you.

In a recession, the UK needs a few more mugs like you.

Do you need a new Accounts System at your company?

<hr width=100% size=1>

My accounts system is fine thanks, I don't know what you are on about though, if everyone stopped spending money there would be a problem, e.g. Chandlery's going under e.t.c. I think you need to review your time management, and then you will see there is a point when you have to let others get on with things for you. I bet you don't even have a lifestyle manager who sorts everything out for you e.g. buying and sending presents on time, booking holidays, arranging flights, booking restaurants and shows, and getting you into special events like Thames forum meets /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif If you manage things properly you can have more time on the boat /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

As for being full of it, surely that means my system is working because I love every minute of it. If I became depressed and sulky I would have to have a good look at what I was doing or had done wrong. Nobody springs to mind on here though who may have got it wrong /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Drinks are on you then!

Well I look forward to this weekend then, anyone with this much money to throw down the drain can buy the drinks all night and not even notice it.

After all think of the money you have saved by not eating at Oakley Court, by your arithmetic we are doing you a favour.

Cheers

Re: Drinks are on you then!

I don't have any money to throw down drains, I am just careful how I spend it /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif but I will ensure I bring a drink for everyone /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I will explain the full story to you when I see you, as I think you may be one of the only ones that don't understand, it will then make sense. I look forwad to meeting you.

JFM re Pie in the Sky is RIGHT

Just got my reply, and no they will not do a one off D3 so that is that. They will however upgrade to the 4.3EFi for a cost of £2,225 incl VAT and import duty SO is it worth it? Your experience and advice would be appreciated, thanks in anticipation /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Dont unnerstand the deal

Hmm. Not a surprise.

What exactly is the upgrade offer? Do you mean a whole new boat (in which case take it - seems dead cheap) or are they going to swap out the engine in your existing boat?

Re: East?

I think the anchoring thing was six of one, and half a dozen of the other. We were, perhaps, a bit close, but his 20 metres of chain was a bit excessive, especially given how crowded the anchorage was.

Still, Duncan was the epitomy of diplomacy, and WE were ok in the end /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: East?

what else could we do? We didn't have a sober skipper aboard the raft so we were unable to move under the goverment guidlines.............../forums/images/icons/smile.gif
the fact that he had to move for us to get our anchor up seemed so obvious I didn't bother to explain so I just agreed with his point that I was in the wrong and it would be a good idea if one of us moved.
I have reconsidered the position over and over again and can only conclude that he was effectively lying to his chain when we arrived due to slack water and lack of wind, and that we put our anchor down close to the anchor but in accord with the other 2 yachts. Thus he became the odd one out when enough foorce came to bear for him to lie to his anchor again.
I think he tried to explain that to us when we anchored but all he said was "I have 20 metres of chain out" - he didn't add "and the anchor is currently over there and not where you might think from all the other boats. I would have apologised more lucidly in the morning but they left too early.
No doubt we have added to the stinkie myths in a club bar somewhere - shame.
