I have an engine space complete refit lined up in the next few weeks - any suggestions for modern 24v lighting in there (I want bright and preferably at least splash proof)

You might be after something fancier, but in Ariam's engine bay I used that LED tape stuff. Mine's not the waterproof variety but it is available. Don't know if it comes in 24v but you could always just wire two separate runs of it in series.

The benefit of the tape over individual fittings is that the light comes from every angle and so you're never working in your own shadow.

Not sure about your engine room space, but on larger boars I USE Screwfix polycarbonate bulkhead lights which are IP67 rated. Rough service leadlamp bulbs in 24v are available to fit them at 60w and they are very bright.

Are they bright Pete?

Very :)

Also worth mentioning that I fitted one of those cupboard door switches to turn them on and off. As soon as I open the door a crack, the lights come on. I am never peering into a dingy engine bay :)
