Icom m400bb
or
Raymarine Ray260

Any opinions on which is best for my flybridge helm ?

I am leaning towards the Raymarine as it should easily integrate, using seatalking network, with my existing e7 mfd and AIS650 .
A slight downside is the separare speaker required for the Raymarine.

The Icom has its speaker in the handset which seems overall a more compact arrangement.

Agreed.
If there's something in a boat where newer normally means better and less expensive (in sharp contrast with several other sides of boatbuilding), that's onboard electronics.

It was the comparison between the Ray260 and the icomM400bb that interests me .
Let's imagine they are the same price.

I would look closely at the Ray91 with the A80544 RayMic Wireless Handset Accessory
Perhaps you wouldn't need a multi station then.
An external/flybridge station wouldn't get the everyday exposure to the elements - the handset could be moved around.
I like that idea.

I have an old Simrad system - and I DON'T rate it - so I always have a handheld available.
The idea that a wireless handset would work like a handheld but with the extra range/performance of a fixed station sound appealing.

I decided to go with the Raymarine 260 – a Raymarine factory refurbished one rather than brand new. At £300 including VAT and including delivery . It comes with a 2 year guarantee. That seems to me a palatable price.

I already have a new antenna already in place and the antenna cable threaded through to a location where I would like the base station to fit. I hope the installation will be not too challenging and dependent mainly in the weather as the handset will be at the flybridge helm.

I will need a cable to extend my existing mfd via the network. I will order that when I have finalised the location of the base station.

MartynG,
Do you have a link for this deal or was it just a one-off? I’m thinking of replacing my vhf with an AIS unit that can talk to my Raymarine A95 MFD.

The vhf was a christmas gift therefore box opened this morning.
The outer packaging was re-used but the contents look absolutely brand new , as I had hoped they would.
The base unit is bigger than I had expected but there is a long cable allowing flexibility in its location.
