Many thanks t everyone who commented on my initial post about bow thrusters in the Med.

Having now decided to have one fitted and done some research I have a short list of either a Vetus or Sleipner Side Power ( I know that there are other makes but my installer has recommended these)

I would therefore welcome any comments forum members have regarding there experience of these two makes.

Also any advice at to what thrust/KG would be appropriate.

Many thanks

Mark

By strange co-incidence a nice man sent me a quote for a side power after a chat at the boat show. Recommended for boats 35-48ft apparently is the SE80 (80Kg thrust). Total cost of all hardware excluding fitting was a bit over 2 grand inc. vat.

Not having a bow thruster though I can't comment further....

I have a sidepower. Very solid and has proved reliable, easy to service and seems well thought after.

hthat "

vetus is very common in med boat shops, spares etc?

I still think you oughta "wait and see" about this and lots of other med-type add-ons... they do have boatyards and everything else in the med itself, yerknow? And lots more boats.

+1 for Side Power. Had one for 10 years and always found it very reliable and robust. Whatever you do don't go and look whilst it's being installed. Bl00dy big holes in your boat are a scary thing to see but worth it, especially if you're short handed or with a boat that likes to do what it wants as opposed to what you want it to.

Good luck

Chas
