WHICH IS THE RIGHT PROPELLER SIZE FOR MY FISHING BOAT?
The boat is a 51 feet long.
2 Detroit Diesel engine. 6/71.
The propellers are 3 blades 26" x 26" Brass.
Do a BRONZE 4-BLADE PROPELLER 20" X 22" brass would be
acceptable or better?
Thank you. Profishing.

You can either go to a propeller specialist such as Clements and ask for a quote - they will require much more information than you have given here.

Or if you want to do a rough calculation yourself you can use the Propcalc programme from Castle Marine. You can find it through Google. You will still need to provide a lot more information but the site will guide you.

Just a quick observation, the two sizes you quote are very different and highly unlikely they will both work on the same boat.

Yep, good outfit.
Also try
www.castlemarine.co.uk

The above have 'prop calc' downloads.

Feed in the details of your boat.
Weight, if poss.
Waterline length.
Eng hp
Gearbox reduction

26x26 props are called 'Square'
Usually but not always!

That is the prob with Prop selection
Fitted to boats with a 1 to 1 reduction gearbox.
Hey!
Not an expert by the way, just my experience.

So You need to fill in all the info you have.

And belt it off to those that know.

Whether 3 or 4 blades are better?

Again tiss real experts you need to talk to

Bye the bye
What does
2 detroit engines 6/71 mean.
6 cyl 71 hp by any chance?

Peeps will want to know if the Hull of your vessel is a 'displacement or Semi displacement' too!

Sorry to pose questions not answers but prop calculation goes like this /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
