Which is the best 40'-45' Flybridge?

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

have a look at the jeanneau pristige 46 seem a good price second hand and good layout not in my price table but the numbers could come in this weekend

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

I am sure that no-one was looking for a fight!

I do think that the ST42 is less effected by windage etc but that is pretty marginal. And while I find shafts easier I would have to confess that I never got to be very skilled with drives and that's really just my fault.

No the real difference is ease of movement on docking, particularly the side door beside the wheel and the gate in the side deck that mean you are literally two short steps on the level from shore, rather than shinnig down the ladder form the flybridge or running back from the saloon and off the swim platform.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Well seamaster, The sealine F42/5 is a superb all rounder.

Shaft drive i note you require, to which the Sealine 42/5 handles superbly with this setup. The boat responds well to close quarter manouvering and excellent ride and performance on the plane.

Accomodation is great with the extending cockpit, easy boarding, good layout on flybridge, spacious lounge, galley and cabins.

Good size lazerette for stowage, and generally well equiped.
Go and have a good look at one on the water, or even better get a sea trial and you will be amazed.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Thanks for the feed back splosh!

Do you own one? If so which engine option, have you had many teething problems and anything I should look out for.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

I do believe powerskipper used to teach on one in the solent.Alpha 1 maybe?

Three sizes of engine available 370 420 480hp volvos.

Go for at least the middle one IMHO

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Thanks sun coast,

I think Alpha 1 is an older model F42 or F43 from memory?

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

If you would appreciate a hull which is in another league compared to Sealine, have a look at Uniesse.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

That brings back memories! I think it was a 420. I did my dayskip on it in 1998, with sealine sea school on the hamble :-)

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Thats the one, I think she has seen loads of us!

She's been the RYA instructor training boat for a while too. I once had the flybridge wheel come adrift on her whilst manouvering on an instructor update!

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Hi MapisM

Never had much to complain about with Sealine hulls myself but think I get where your coming from.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Yup, my comment wasn't meant to bash Sealine, but you'd surely appreciate the difference.
Mind, on the other hand the wallet probably wouldn't...

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

MapisM

Just checked their website out, they look to have a great finish, quite possibly a different class of boat and I agree my pockets wont be deep enough!!!!

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Astondoa might also be worth a look.
Used to have reasonable prices with good enough quality, though I've not seen them lately.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Well I'd better put in a shout for the Phantom 40...since we own one!! It's been a great boat so far with a superb flybridge and (well I think) great build quality vs styling, performance and overall economy/running costs.
However I do also like the Princess 42 (very similar layout - just a bit bigger in all departments) and if Princess had been a bit more helpful we may well have bought one!
Personally I would only go with one of those 2 boats at the moment.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

Consider also Rodman 41? Don't know that much about them, but their big fishers have good reputation and supposedly top notch hulls, and we looked around a 38 a few years back and it seemed well put together.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

The Nimbus 42 Nova is in fact the coupe version of the Storebro 410 Commander. Storebro being part of the Nimbus group. They have just brought out the 435 which is the same boat with a bigger bathing platform which has been featured and highly recommended recently in MBY and came runner up in best flybridge under 50' in the MBM awards last week at LIBS. Have a look at Offshore Powerboats in Lymington as uk boats are looking such good value to overseas buyers. http://www.offshore-powerboats.co.uk/pow...e(offshore)=194
This is my own boat which is only for sale as i am going into something bigger with a pal.

Cheers
Tetleys

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

If you want to move away from the usual suspect, how about the IPS NordWest. Need to prefer teak and mahogany to GRP mind you.

Re: Which is the best 40\'-45\' Flybridge?

I have an F42/5 and consider it to be the best compromise of all similar sized boats. Excellent handling and big spaces.

Up to all tasks and SWIMBO, ever the reluctant sailor, has really taken to having something comfortable that really is 'posh caravaning'.

Add the HUGE lazarette and ..............

Have fun
