Which is cheaper to run, eber or electric heater

Hi,
Whether oilheaters like Eberspächer/Webasto or Electric heating is cheapest may vary locally. I used to stay onboard my previous boat also when it sat firmly in the ice, and with occasional temperatures of minus 15/20 the Eberspächer worked fine. To keep boat frostfree I had electric oilradiators on all the time, and had the Eber fired up on Thursday/Friday for the week end.
BUT where the electric heating has an "unlimited" lifetime, the Eber needs regular service, and dont forget these cost when you compare. If I remember right it cost me almost half the price of a new unit every two years !

In my berth, by far the cheapest is electricity. I don't pay extra for electricity usage.

However, the port rules say that I can only use electricity for keeping the batteries charged.

But I don't think there is any kind of meter anywhere, so they would probably not know.

Don't forget EU isn't taking any of this swerve and are taking UK to the face the Emperor on the Death Star or something for selling red diesel outside permitted use,as they see it.
Expect British built boat prices to collapse, soar,do nothing etc etc, though that will doubtless be on headroom in the master cabin and forget everything else.
Incidentally what the hell is everyone doing standing up all the time in the master cabin?
If I follow recent threads this is far more important than a usable hull, decent helm, usable cockpit, beer fridge etc. No,forget all that cra#,
I want to stand up downstairs all day and night. ...

Send key setting, over

Seems to me the diesel heater is not harmed by regular use , in fact better to use it regularly to keep it working as it should.
If you use electric heating does this risk fault developing with the diesel heater ?
