Need to split mine and give it a scrub, which grease should I put back in.

Would a standard automotive grease do it? That or copperslip(ease) which is all I have in the shed..

I have some white sterntube grease on the boat, should I wait?

Something like OMC Triple-guard grease would be ideal.

Mercury and Mariner I think say Quicksilver 2-4-C marine lubricant. That should be readily available ( contains Teflon)

What ever your outboard manufacturer suggests is the stock answer. What does it say for greasing in the owners manual?

I am worried about using Copaslip or other copper based greases on aluminium. Anyway their main use is as an anti-seize compound.

I reckon a stern tube grease would might be a good choice eg Ramonol White Grease

Or Comma White Grease. Probably find that in Halfords

I have to admit mine gets a shot of what ever is in the grease gun

I use Evinrude Triple Guard. Quite expensive but you don't need to use much and it stays protecting even when immersed.

Comes in a nice shade of blue too. Recommended by my local Outboard servicing agent.

good point about copper and ally, I hadn't thought of that, I wasn't serious about it anyhow, just that it is in the shed. I probably have some CV grease too, but that is way to messy.

It is comma teflon I have on board, I'll wait until I can get to that then, that or pick up a tube of evinrude's stuff.

My fear of using the normal grease I have is the mess when it hits the sea water.

Cheers fellas

Well for what it's worth, the Evinrude stuff has stayed fresh as a daisy since before christmas, on my ouboard leg. Only drawback is that I was a touch over liberal with it so if I grab the leg when pulling off the tender, I get nice blue greasy hands!

The Tin 'll probably last me about 20 years.
