Looking for a little advice on which glue to use.

Im going to fashion some shelves for my fridge and, I think, the easiest thing to do will be to attach some aluminium angle iron to two walls and then cut down some wire shelves to fit on top. So the question is, what would be the best glue to attach the aluminium to the walls? I'm going to tap to hold them in place initially but need something pretty robust so the don't come off in a decent swell.

Any thoughts?

Depends what the walls are made of. If grp or some sort of plastic No More Nails (if available where you are) or similar silicone adhesive would be fine as long as you aren't going to load it with a slab of beer

All good stuff, the walls are fibre glass and epoxy paint, if that changes things at all?

Also in Mexico, so will have to have a wander round and see whats avaliable.

I cant get a slab of beer in there, maybe only half a slab.....

Great, polyurethane glue it is. Thank you.

When you say score the surfaces does that mean give them a key with a bit of sanding?

Yes - but an even deeper keying than from sanding (e.g. by 'hatch' filing the aluminium / scoring the GRP). Forgive me if that's stating the obvious, but I find it can make a lot of difference with such joins, and thought a reminder worthwhile.

You might not have those branded products out there but any polyurethane sealant should do.

"Those products Out There" I love that ancient (Victorian) attitude that UK is the centre of the world and any where over the horizon is "Out there" Reality is that UK is just another place in the world. Mexicans would believe that Mexico is the centre of the civilised world. Yes products often have different brand names. As an example here in the antipodes I believe we have as good or better range of all sorts of products than UK especially marine products and cheaper too.
ol'will on his high horse.

Only thought about roughing up the fibreglass, good shout to include the aluminium as well.

I think I have some 5200 somewhere, but swore Id never use it again as its a bugger to get off anything..... so perfect for this project!

As the Ynys Môn / Anglesey farmer is reputed to have said: 'London's fine, but it's a bit far from anywhere.' :)

I took the term "angle iron" as a generic term as these days I have not found and angle made of iron.

closest to iron was is steel which is mainly iron but pure iron has very different properties.

Wrought iron or puddle iron used to be used long long ago but is still not pure iron as it has about 0.08% carbon.

But who really cares its the angle form in what ever material brass, copper, steel aluminium and even non metal forms of GRP, HDPE UHMWPE,Nylon and lots of others.

Being unable to find any aluminium (non iron) angle iron in these parts looks like Im going to have to use wood battens.

I will tap and glue, can I assume that 5200/polyurethane will also do the job on wood?
